Because so much learning is visual, even subtle vision problems can impact reading, attention, confidence, and performance in school.

Children often don’t realize they’re not seeing clearly. They assume everyone sees the way they do.

School screenings are helpful — but they are not comprehensive eye exams. A child can pass a screening and still struggle with:

• Focusing
• Eye teaming
• Tracking across a page
• Depth perception
• Early eye health issues

A comprehensive pediatric eye exam evaluates how the eyes work together, how they focus, and how they support learning — not just whether your child can read letters on a chart.

Vision problems aren’t always obvious. Watch for:

• Avoiding reading or close work
• Frequent headaches or tired eyes
• Short attention span during schoolwork
• Losing place while reading
• Covering one eye or tilting the head
• Squinting
• Sensitivity to light
• Clumsiness or poor coordination

Sometimes what appears to be distraction, learning difficulty, or behavioral concerns can actually stem from an undiagnosed vision issue.

Many pediatric vision problems can be successfully treated when detected early.

• Strabismus — Eyes that do not align properly (“crossed” or wandering eye).
• Amblyopia — Often called “lazy eye,” this is reduced vision in one eye due to improper development. Early treatment is critical.
• Refractive Errors — Blur caused by the shape of the eye, including:
  • Nearsightedness (myopia)
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia)
  • Astigmatism

Nearsightedness is increasing in children and often progresses each year during school.

Rather than simply updating glasses annually, we evaluate whether your child may benefit from myopia control — treatment designed to slow progression and reduce long-term risk to eye health.

• Annual comprehensive eye exams every year throughout the school years
